Wk of Jan 20

The latest thing with my son is he wants to play “Tain tain” with everything. This includes Kleenex boxes, Lego sets, stack toys, small cars, and food on his plate that are square pieces.
So, he starts with one piece and then starts putting other peices behind it. Then he uses the last piece to push the whole thing forward. It is more fun if he can push this train off, preferably with a loud noise from a table, bed or some such higher ground.

MIL is leaving early next week. It is going to be a challenge trying to do everything ourselves again. Abhay is also going to miss her a lot as he has gotten very used to having her around.

This whole “I want to eat by myself” phase is driving us all crazy. Trying to find good nutritious food that he can actually eat and not lose between plate and mouth is very challenging. Hi diet now is Bread/waffle/idli for breakfast. Main courses are Kuzhli paniyaram, stuffed parratha (different fillings), dosas (different kinds – pesarrattu, adai, and regular dosa), and ravioli. He will eat fruits depending on his mood. Weekends we experiment in trying to get him to eat rice of different kinds.
This weekend’s trial recipe’s are raagi dosa and All American Mac & Cheese.

Wk of Jan 9th

I get a call on Friday morning asking me to come home immediately as Abhay has hurt his hand.
Happy ending first – Abhay is doing ok.

After the round of doctor, radiology, doctor again we get back home and he is still not moving his hand. I had to reschedule my interview at the FDA (which was very scary as this was an opportunity I was waiting for a long time).
It was heart breaking to see him – he would try to reach for something with both hands but stop mid-way and try and use only his left hand. It was partially physical pain and partially psychological pain. He was so afraid to use his hand. But all is well that ends well. He is ok and back to his "Gunda" ways.

Hubby is was loading the dishwasher and sonny comes running to play with the things in the dishwasher. Spying a knife, hubby shuts the dishwasher quickly by kicking it as his hands were very soapy from the dishes. Son goes away to deal with other stuff. Hubby continues loading the dishwasher, Abhay comes over and in perfect imitation of my husband tries to kick the dishwasher shut. I just could not stop laughing.

Fruit of the week : Pomegranate
Abhay has been eating this for almost 5 days now, pretty much at every meal.

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year!!!

Again a very laid back welcoming of the new year - stayed home and watched the times square ball drop on TV and went to bed.

Abhay did not care that we were up late - he woke up at 6:30 rearing to go.

We went to the temple later in the evening. Abhay did not enjoy as much as we were restricting him a lot since it was so crowded.

I think people who talk about the blissfulness of child rearing and the happiness it brings and all that are smoking something and not sharing with the rest of us. Working full time, taking care of the baby and doing all the household chores ( just bare minimum survival stuff) is taking a toll on both hubby and me. We are snapping at each other more, getting irritated at small things and in a bad irritable mood overall. I am re-thinking the whole working mom vs soccer mom debate. I think both of them are tough but in very different ways. More of that to come I am sure as I am trying to work through this.

Back to the grind now.
