Holidays

Abhay met another Chittappa (Uncle) today. He did not show any stranger anxiety at all. So the theories are
- Anand resembles Vijay and since he is used to Vijay he did not react adversely.
- Anand is so soft spoken that he did not get scared.

The newest antic is he searches the tags in everything and then goes after it to put it into his mouth. He ate the tag on his play mat, his blankie, my blankie, the crawl ball, the lion toy in his walker. The height of it was he was trying to eat the tag in his own clothes during diaper/dress change.

Interesting things seem to be happening on the diaper changing table today. He was being fussy as well as very impatient on the table. So I gave him a wet wipe to hold. And as usual he decided to put it in his mouth. I said no with a vigorous hand shake and head shake and pulled it out. He started laughing. He then slowly puts it into his mouth all the while watching for my reaction. If I said no again, he starts laughing. If I said nothing, he also went quite.

We had a pretty good outing today ( the day after Christmas) - went to Costco, then the mall. Abhay was very happy watching the multitude of people, things and places. He could not get enough. Even though he was sleepy he kept resisting as there was so much stuff to look at. He finally slept for 30 minutes in the Sprint store as we were buying new phones.

The highlight of the day for me was that the mall closed at 7 pm, just around Abhay's feed time. I was in the ladies restroom and when I heard a loud click. And lo and behold the door was locked. I banged loudly all the while still feeding Abhay. The security person opened the door and told me that the mall was closed and hence the restroom was also closed. I walked out into the sitting area and finished feeding him. The surprising part was Abhay was peacefully feeding, did not make any noise through all this drama.

Santa experience

It is the first Christmas for Abhay. Today was the kid's Christmas party at hubby's office.

We decided to go check it out, this being the first time for all of us, including hubby who has been working at the company for 13 years.

Abhay decided to go to sleep as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. He did not even wake up with all the noise around him. The party was from 10:30 to 12:00. We were going to give him till about 11:30 and then wake him so we can take the pictures with Santa. But he woke up very upset due to some loud announcement that was made.
He then was so enthralled by all the people, colors, noises.

We walked around a little and then decided to go take picture with Santa. I was a little apprehensive because of the aforementioned stranger anxiety. But he was ok, he went sat on Santa's lap, played with his beard, posed for the pictures.

Sampath scored tickets for Willy Wonka also. So we were able to get a picture with him also.

Official photos to follow soon.

The sleepness due to teething, sitting, crawling and solid foods

Today was one of the craziest days ever. Abhay was cranky all day. He wanted to be held and held by me only. He would not even go to Revathi ( Sampath's sister). If I did not hold him he would just whine and cry. It is indeed flattering that I have that kind of soothing effect on him. But with a breast infection and myriad other health problems it was exhausting by the end of the day. He slept for all of 1 hour all day. I ended up calling Sampath and asked him to come home early to see if he could rock him to sleep

He has also developed stranger anxiety. He saw the trash pick up guys (dressed in all back and hooded) through the window and started crying. He saw the cleaners and started crying. Poor thing she was so worried she had done something to cause him to cry.

He is trying to crawl, trying being the key word. He goes backwards, is up on all fours, does a rocking motion but cannot go forward. So, he gets frustrated and the whining begins all over again. He even does this rocking motion in his sleep and then is awake crying. It is almost like he remembers in his sleep " Oh! I have to crawl" and begins to do the motions he does when he is awake. That is just so amazing. I read that the child is building all the synapses to do these developmental activities in his sleep and hence the crawling in his sleep.

Add teething to this mix. He has two upper front teeth almost ready to pop out. The pain, indigestion and the chewing is also causing sleeplessness.

The fun part of the day was when I tried feeding him Avocado (the new food for this week) - he made a face that was very hilarious - it said " what the hell are you trying to feed me?" - which is the face he makes for most food initially and then goes on to relish it. This was not the case today - he just blew raspberries with the subsequent bites. I had to quickly give him his favourite sweet potatoes after that.

Exhausted he finally fell asleep after a bath and a feed. Time for me to go do the same! Sleep!

6 months and counting

I have been meaning to do this ever since Abhay (my son) was born. But with so many things happening I never got around to it.

The title comes from my lovely sister and thanks to her for getting me started on this.

The first six months are gone and it is all a blur. The only thing I can say is I had it real easy when my parents were here and Sampath was working from home.

Today we went to the Little gym for the first time and Abhay absolutely loved it.

As soon as we entered the gym he was handed some bells and he was mesmerized by them. Then the instructor came in. We did stretches, chin pull ups on a bar, somersaults. The last thing we did was bubble chasing. He absolutely loved that.

All this fun and happy times gets eclipsed by the crankiness that happens every day in the evening. Do not know if it is teething, gas, indigestion due to new solids, not enough naps or cabin fever. It starts every day at 5 like clock work and goes till Sampath gets home. Do not know what happens then he just becomes a happy baby. Makes me want to yell and scream at both Sampath and the baby.
